Swish Appeal is thrilled to share this conversation with with India Pagán. The New London, CT basketball legend—who was selected as the city’s best player of the 2010s—is a two-time Olympian with the Puerto Rico National Team. Pagán played for Stony Brook Seawolves for five years, then moved to Germany and Czechia. She is now in Puerto Rico; we actually got to talk a day before her flight.
We talked about her high school and college experiences, her underrated passing, her shot selection, spices and, of course, the Olympics. Here are a few highlights:
About the opening game against Serbia:
I wish we could have just started off the way we ended and if we did that, we probably would have won all the games, instead of digging ourselves in a hole and then having to crawl back up and then try to get the win in the end. But I think we were nervous. It’s a whole bunch of the girls on the team for whom it was their first Olympics. Their nerves were through the roof.
On her underrated passing:
I’ve always been a good passer and I think that’s like something I pride myself in. I love to have a good pass for my teammate, for her to finish it. It makes me feel so happy, sometimes even better than scoring….
