FIBA: Interview with two-time Puerto Rican Olympian India Pagán

Swish Appeal is thrilled to share this conversation with with India Pagán. The New London, CT basketball legend—who was selected as the city’s best player of the 2010s—is a two-time Olympian with the Puerto Rico National Team. Pagán played for Stony Brook Seawolves for five years, then moved to Germany and Czechia. She is now in Puerto Rico; we actually got to talk a day before her flight.

We talked about her high school and college experiences, her underrated passing, her shot selection, spices and, of course, the Olympics. Here are a few highlights:

About the opening game against Serbia:

I wish we could have just started off the way we ended and if we did that, we probably would have won all the games, instead of digging ourselves in a hole and then having to crawl back up and then try to get the win in the end. But I think we were nervous. It’s a whole bunch of the girls on the team for whom it was their first Olympics. Their nerves were through the roof.

On her underrated passing:

I’ve always been a good passer and I think that’s like something I pride myself in. I love to have a good pass for my teammate, for her to finish it. It makes me feel so happy, sometimes even better than scoring….
