The WNBA has been in the spotlight for things unrelated to basketball recently. Fever rookie Caitlin Clark wants the focus to shift back to the court.
The rookie sensation has been at the epicenter of the WNBA’s ascension, but she has had enough with the way the league is being discussed. Conversations have been dominated by the perceived target on her back in recent weeks. Last Saturday, Clark took a cheap shot from Sky guard Chennedy Carter, spawning an unfathomable amount of pundits to weigh in on the topic.
Analysts like ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, Monica McNutt and Pat McAfee all had something to say. Bob Costas, Charles Barkley, NBA commissioner Adam Silver and Indiana congressman Jim Banks did, too.
In the women’s basketball department, UConn’s legendary head coach Geno Auriemma gave his two cents. Sky rookie Angel Reese also spoke out on the double standard of the way the whole Clark situation was covered.
And that’s just to name a few.
With four days off between the Fever’s game schedule, Clark had not been given the chance to speak out on the situation until Friday. Here’s what the WNBA star had to say.
