For the first time this season, Caitlin Clark and the Fever will take on the Lynx, this year’s Commissioner’s Cup champions.
After a mediocre 2023, Minnesota came out swinging, getting wins over the Storm, Liberty and Las Vegas. It downed New York on the road to win this year’s Commissioner’s Cup title and the $500,000 that came with it. Napheesa Collier’s performance thus far, in which she averages 20 points, earned her selection to the Olympic team. Teammate Kayla McBride’s 15.5 points per game earned her All-Star selection, too.
Unfortunately, Clark, one of two rookies to be selected as an All-Star this year, likely won’t get to face Collier. The Lynx star is considered day-to-day since aggravating a foot injury in early July. With the Games coming up, she may not return to the court in order to manage her status.
Regardless of Collier’s status, Indiana is a threat to Minnesota. Clark, Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell are emerging as the team’s consistent big three. It helped them to important wins over the Mercury and Liberty. While the Fever have only beaten a top-five team once so far, their emerging chemistry isn’t one to be messed with, especially with the Olympic break a matter of days away.
