Amna and Hamda Al Qubaisi hardly contained their smiles as they embraced in parc fermé at Austria’s Red Bull Ring. Moments earlier, Hamda, the younger of the sisters, had finished second in race three of F1 Academy’s opening round, while Amna took home third.
The 2023 season marked the all-women junior series’ first campaign as part of Formula One’s pyramid and aims “to add an extra route for the next generation of young female drivers.”
F1 Academy opens the door and shows ‘proof of concept’ that women can be successful in motorsports, even though it’s been decades since a female driver has competed in F1.
