CoCo Vandeweghe highlights Aryna Sabalenka is absolutely looking like the best player in the game right now but the former two-time Grand Slam semifinalist is also warning the Belarusian that she is now officially “the hunted one” after replacing Iga Swiatek at the world No. 1 spot.
Over the last three months, the 26-year-old has been an absolute menace to her competition, winning the US Open, as well as the WTA 1000 tournaments in Cincinnati and Wuhan. Her only defeat in her last four tournaments came against Karolina Muchova in the Beijing quarterfinal.
While Sabalenka was busy collecting titles, Swiatek didn’t have a great summer and she also recently fired her long-time coach and skipped the entire Asian swing. And after melting the Pole’s lead weekly for the past few months, the Belarusian returned to the top spot on Monday.
For months, this year’s Australian Open and US Open champion chased Swiatek’s No. 1 position. Now, the 26-year-old has it. But she now also has the pressure that the Pole had.
