1996 Australian Open doubles champion and tennis analyst Chanda Rubin applauded Iga Swiatek for how she was able to adapt to tricky Cancun conditions and improve her level with every match. At the WTA Finals, Swiatek went 5-0 and impressively won her first title at the prestigious season-ending tournament.
In the group stage, Swiatek claimed straight-set wins over reigning Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova, reigning US Open champion Coco Gauff, and world No 6 Ons Jabeur. Then, Swiatek dismantled Aryna Sabalenka 6-3 6-2 to reach the final and keep her hopes of finishing as the Year-End No 1.
In the final, Swiatek brutally destroyed Jessica Pegula 6-1 6-0, who was also 4-0 prior to the final. By winning the WTA Finals in such a way, Swiatek also regained the world No 1 spot from Sabalenka.
