Two former University of Michigan athletes filed a class-action lawsuit against the school, its board of regents, former offensive coordinator Matt Weiss and a third-party vendor over allegations that Weiss accessed intimate photos by hacking into their personal accounts.
One of the former athletes, identified as Jane Doe 1, was a member of the women’s gymnastics team between 2017 and 2018. The other, identified as Jane Doe 2, was a member of the women’s soccer team between 2017 and 2023. The lawsuit was filed in federal court Friday, a day after Weiss was indicted on 24 counts related to unauthorized computer access and identity theft.
Weiss, who was arraigned Monday in federal court, was released on bond after a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf, according to court records.
The lawsuit alleges that the university and its regents failed to supervise and monitor Weiss, who was fired in January 2023 after a report of suspicious computer activity at Schembechler Hall, Michigan’s football facility.
