Eugenie Bouchard has fired back at Jessica Pegula’s critics as the 2014 Wimbledon finalist highlights that the American’s tennis success is definitely not something that money could buy.
At this past US Open, the world No. 3 had her career-best Grand Slam run after reaching the final before suffering a 5-7 5-7 loss to Aryna Sabalenka.
While the majority of the focus was on the 30-year-old’s strong run, her name being in the headlines also led to some mentioning the fact that she is the daughter of billionaire Terry Pegula. For context, there are some people who don’t like Pegula just because she comes from a wealthy family and they automatically assume that she didn’t have and doesn’t have to work for a single thing in her life.
And on X, one person expressed her disbelief that there are people making malicious comments about the new top-ranked American female tennis player when it is clear she looks like quite a simple person and doesn’t show off in any way.
Reacting to the post, Bouchard stated: “Money can’t buy a US Open final lol.”
