Tennis star Eugenie Bouchard found herself in a comical exchange with a customs officer during her recent travels to Spain for a tennis tournament. Explaining her profession at a German customs checkpoint, the Canadian was led to compare herself to Novak Djokovic.
On her way to represent Canada at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Seville, the 2014 Wimbledon finalist Bouchard had an amusing encounter at the airport. She recounted this incident on X:
At customs in Germany and when I tell the officer I’m continuing on to Spain to play a tennis tournament he goes ‘Oh so you are a professional? Like Novak Djokovic?’ Yes sir, just like that 😂
One commenter suggested to Bouchard that she should’ve responded: “Yes, but unlike me, he has never played a Wimbledon women’s final.”
The Billie Jean King Cup Final will take place November 7-12 on indoor hard courts at Estadio de La Cartuja in Seville, Spain. Besides Bouchard, the Canadian team features Leylah Fernandez, Rebecca Marino, Marina Stakusic, and Gabriela Dabrowski.
