England and USA played out a goalless draw on Saturday in front of the biggest crowd ever seen at a women’s international friendly match.
Emma Hayes’ return to London drew an attendance of 78,346 at England’s national stadium as the world’s top-ranked teams failed to find a breakthrough.
The USWNT were largely the more threatening side, but clear-cut chances were scarce and England goalkeeper Mary Earps performed well when called upon. At the other end, Alyssa Naeher — who will bow out from international football this year — secured a 10th clean sheet in 2024, the most she has managed in a single year in her USWNT career.

England enjoyed a positive spell early in the second half before the U.S. won a penalty for a handball by Alex Greenwood, although VAR correctly overturned the call. That incident largely killed the home side’s momentum and they seemed happy to play for the 0-0, perhaps with that 4-3 home loss to Germany in October still on their minds.
