Emma Raducanu to play Singapore week after Australian Open

Emma Raducanu is set to appear in two tournaments this month despite her unfortunate Auckland withdrawal as the British tennis star has signed up for the WTA 250 event in Singapore. 

This past week, the former world No. 10 was unable to start her season in New Zealand after a back injury sustained in training forced her to miss the ASB Classic. 

However, it didn’t appear to be anything too serious since the 22-year-old went straight to Melbourne Park and has been practicing there for the past couple of days.

Now, the tournament organizers shared that Raducanu agreed to come to their event, which is slated to take place between January 27 and February 2nd.

In this year’s WTA calendar, the Singapore Open replaced Thailand’s Hua Hin Open. Also, this will be the first year since the 2018 WTA Finals that Singapore is hosting a main-level tournament.

In the Singapore player field, the 2021 US Open champion will be joined by the likes of 2020 Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin and former world No. 12 Elise Mertens.
