Posting a photo from a hospital bed, with her right hand heavily bandaged, Emma Raducanu informed the tennis world that she will have to be away from the Hologic WTA Tour during the summer as she treats injures that have bothered her for months.
“It’s safe to say the last ten months have been difficult,” Raducanu wrote on paper by hand and posted an image of the lengthy message on her Instagram. A recurring injury on a bone of both hands has caused pain for a long time, forcing her to miss weeks of training and cut the last season short.
The measures were not enough and medical intervention was necessary. The 2021 US Open champion, who is expected to fall out of the Top 100 when the WTA rankings are updated, underwent a minor procedure on both hands and will also treat her ankle while she’s sorting out her health issues.
Recovering from the surgeries, Raducanu will skip the summer events, which implies that she will miss both Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
