Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the Madrid Open due to an injury in her right hand. Raducanu, 20, was scheduled to play qualifier Viktoriya Tomova in the Madrid first round on Wednesday. Just hours before the match, Raducanu pulled out of the tournament.

Raducanu, ranked at No 85 in the world, made the round-of-16 in her debut at a WTA 1000 event in Madrid last year.
Now that Raducanu won’t defend her Madrid points, she is set to leave the top-100.
Raducanu has been troubled by a wrist injury
Since last year, Raducanu has been hampered by a wrist injury. In late 2022, Raducanu decided to end her season a bit prematurely so she could address the wrist injury.
Raducanu was able to start her 2023 season in time but her wrist injury reappeared once again. After suffering a Miami Open first-round loss to Bianca Andreescu, Raducanu said she needed to figure out a long-term solution for her wrist injury.
