Emma Navarro clinches second WTA title with a perfect 6-0 6-0 final in Merida

Emma Navarro delivered a masterclass in dominance, racing to her second WTA title with a flawless 6-0 6-0 victory over Colombian qualifier Emiliana Arango in the Merida Open Akron final. The top-seeded American needed just 55 minutes to secure the WTA 500 crown, capping off an incredible week in Mexico.

Navarro, 23, was playing as the top seed at a WTA tournament for the first time in her career and proved worthy of the honor, dropping just 16 games across four matches en route to the title. Along the way, she defeated Petra Martic, Zeynep Sonmez, and Elina Avanesyan before making her most commanding performance against Arango.

Despite the brutal loss, Arango can take pride in a breakthrough tournament. The world No. 133 had never advanced past the quarterfinals of a WTA event before but made an inspired run in Merida. Her efforts will be rewarded with a Top 100 debut at No. 80 when the next rankings are released.

According to the WTA, Navarro is only the fifth player since 2020 to win a final with a 6-0 6-0 scoreline. The most recent instance came in 2021, when Iga Swiatek dismantled Karolina Pliskova in the Rome final without conceding a game. Since 2000, only three other WTA finals have ended in such dominant fashion:
