Chelsea Women manager Emma Hayes will leave the Women’s Super League club at the end of the 2023-24 season to take over the U.S. women’s national team, according to sources briefed on the hiring process. The sources were granted anonymity because they were not authorised to publicly discuss the decision.
Chelsea announced Hayes’ departure earlier on Saturday. The U.S. Soccer Federation has been approached for comment.
Matt Crocker, sporting director at U.S. Soccer, previously indicated his organisation was aiming to appoint Andonowski’s permanent successor in early December.
Twila Kilgore became the USWNT interim head coach following Vlatko Andonowski’s resignation in August, following his side’s round-of-16 exit at the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Hayes joined Chelsea in 2012 and throughout her time with the club, she secured six WSL titles, five FA Cups, two FA Women’s League Cups, one FA Women’s Spring Series trophy, and one Women’s Community Shield.
