Former world No 3 Elina Svitolina has accepted a main draw wildcard into the Madrid Open, the tournament announced. Svitolina, 28, recently returned from a 13-month absence and she is now ranked at No 1113 in the world. Thanks to a main draw wildcard given by the Madrid organizers, Svitolina will make her eighth appearance at Caja Magica this year.

Svitolina made her Madrid debut in 2014, when she was beaten by Jelena Jankovic in the first round.
A bit surprisingly, Svitolina didn’t enjoy much success in her next seven Madrid appearances as well. Overall, Svitolina has had four first-round exits in Madrid, while on three occasions she went out in the second round.
