Elena Rybakina pulled out of the French Open shortly before her third-round match against Sara Sorribes Tormo because of fever and headache.
The fourth-seeded Rybakina breezed through the first two rounds, but had no other choice than to withdraw ahead of her Saturday’s third-round match because of illness. “I was not sleeping well two days,” the reigning Wimbledon champion told the media in Paris. “It’s difficult to perform, to run and even breathe.” The Moscow-born Kazakhstani concluded that the only reasonable option was for her to withdraw.
Another Top 5 player had bad luck with health in Paris. Third-ranked Jessica Pegula got food poisoning on her first night in the French capital, leaving her feeling utterly drained and devoid of energy, which may have contributed to her Friday’s third-round loss to Elise Mertens. (source: BBC)
