Elena Rybakina met with Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, via The Astana Times. Rybakina finished as runner-up at the Australian Open, before winning her first WTA 1000 title in Indian Wells. After winning Indian Wells, Rybakina fell just short of completing the Sunshine Double as she finished as runner-up to Petra Kvitova in the Miami final.
This week, Rybakina met with Kazakhstan President Tokayev – who congratulated the 23-year-old on her recent success. Last year, Rybakina became the first Kazakh player to win a Grand Slam after winning Wimbledon. During her conversation with Kazakhstan President Tokayev, Rybakina promised she would do her best to continue helping tennis grow in Kazakhstan.
“I will do my best to succeed at prestigious international competitions in the future,” Rybakina said.
Rybakina donated $77,000 to rising Kazakh girls
Rybakina was born in Moscow but switched her nationality in 2018.
Kazakhstan financially supported Rybakina at the start of her career and now she is giving back to the country. In late March, it was reported that Rybakina donated a total of 35 million KZT (around $77,000) to 14 promising and talented Kazakh girls.
