Elena Rybakina made it clear very directly that she is “not really happy” with the conditions in Cancun and suggested that the WTA should have done much better considering how big of a tournament the WTA Finals is. On Sunday, 2022 Wimbledon champion Rybakina officially made her WTA Finals debut.
Unfortunately for Rybakina, it didn’t go well as Jessica Pegula handed the Kazakh a 7-5 6-2 loss. The stadium in Cancun was just finished just before the start of the tournament as Rybakina and were able to hit the court for practice only on Saturday.
“Overall, it’s not easy here. Everyone is struggling. Everyone is trying to do their best. As I said, I’m not really happy with the conditions and the set up of the tournament.. About the court, I don’t really want to talk.
But of course, it’s not good. For sure not for the final 8. Because everything was late and there was no time to fix anything. You can see by the rallies and the shanks we both hit. I think the quality of the match wasn’t the greatest.
But as I said, I tried to do my best,” Rybakina said after the loss.
