Elena Rybakina is the only player who has managed to win two WTA 1000 titles this year. Rybakina, 24, clinched her first WTA 1000 title in March, when she defeated Aryna Sabalenka 7-6 (11) 6-4 in the Indian Wells final. Two months later, Rybakina also won her second WTA 1000 title in Rome.
In the Rome final, Rybakina was 6-1 1-0 up on Anhelina Kalinina when the Ukrainian retired from the match due to an injury. On the WTA Tour, there are nine WTA 1000 tournaments. In the remaining seven WTA 1000 tournaments that took place this year, the winners were Barbora Krejcikova (Dubai), Petra Kvitova (Miami), Aryna Sabalenka (Madrid), Jessica Pegula (Montreal), Coco Gauff (Cincinnati), Maria Sakkari (Guadalajara) and Iga Swiatek (Beijing).
Rybakina was also close to winning some of those events as most notably she was beaten in the Miami final and also exited Montreal and Beijing in the semifinal stage.
