Elena Rybakina has broken the record for the most aces in a single season on the WTA 1000 level. This past week, Rybakina served a total of 38 aces during a WTA 1000 event in Beijing. With those 38 aces, Rybakina improved to 235 aces served on the WTA 1000 level during the entire 2023 season.
The previous record was held by Karolina Pliskova, who collected 234 aces on the WTA 1000 level in 2019. That record also once belonged to Serena Williams, who once served 233 aces in WTA 1000 events in a single season.
Rybakina served extremely well in Beijing but didn’t win the title
Rybakina fairly comfortably made the Beijing semifinal as she dropped just one set en route to reaching the last four.
But after a big win over Aryna Sabalenka in the Beijing quarterfinal, Rybakina’s campaign came to an end in the semifinal after Liudmila Samsonova handed the Kazakh a 7-6 (7) 6-3 loss. After the match, Rybakina was called “a champion” by Samsonova.
