Duke Women’s Tennis to Begin ACC Play Against Virginia Tech and Virginia

Date:

The Duke women’s tennis team is gearing up to open ACC action this week, with a pair of matches on the road against Virginia Tech and Virginia. Currently ranked No. 10 in the ITA poll, the Blue Devils have their sights set on continuing their winning ways against conference opponents.

First up is Virginia Tech, whom Duke has dominated in past matchups, with a series record of 26-2 in favor of the Blue Devils. But don’t count out the Hokies just yet, as they boast an impressive 8-1 record heading into Friday’s match. Duke will need to bring their A-game to keep their five-match winning streak against Virginia Tech alive.

Next, Duke will face off against Virginia, a team they’ve had more of a back-and-forth history with. The Blue Devils hold a series record of 64-9 against the Cavaliers, but Virginia won both meetings between the two teams in 2021. With a current ranking of No. 20 in the ITA poll, Virginia will provide a formidable challenge for Duke.

But the Blue Devils are no strangers to tough competition. Just last week, they turned heads at the ITA National Team Indoors, bouncing back from an opening loss to Oklahoma with impressive victories over No. 6 Stanford and host school Washington. Senior Chloe Beck played a pivotal role in the team’s success, going 3-0 in singles to help lead Duke to victory.

Looking ahead, Duke has its sights set on adding more wins to its nine-match winning streak against ACC opponents. Beck, in particular, has been a standout player in conference play, boasting a 15-match regular season winning streak against ACC foes dating back to her sophomore year. She’ll look to continue her dominance and help Duke maintain their spot in the top 10 of the ITA rankings.

But it’s not just Beck who’s been making waves for Duke. Graduate student Cameron Morra recently became the 28th Blue Devil to reach the 100-win mark, cementing her status as a key player for the team. With both Morra and Beck leading the charge, Duke is poised to continue their winning ways and make a run at an ACC championship.

So, as the Blue Devils hit the road this weekend, all eyes will be on whether they can continue their winning streak against conference foes. With a talented roster and a winning mentality, Duke is sure to put on a show for tennis fans everywhere.
