Novak Djokovic will return after five long years in California to play the BNP Paribas Open, the first ATP Masters 1000 of the season which will be played starting today in Indian Wells.
In the top half of the main draw, the one occupied by Djokovic (who is obviously seed no.1) were inserted Daniil Medvedev, Holger Rune, Rafael Nadal, Taylor Fritz and Hubert Hurkacz.
Djokovic will make his debut against Aleksandar Vukic or a player from the qualifiers. The first seed in his path of the Serb could be Tomas Martin Etcheverry. The Argentine, who lost in three sets to the Serbian at the 2024 Australian Open, will still have to beat the competition of the winner of the match between Zhizhen Zhang and Aleksandar Kovacevic.
Djokovic’s path could undergo a strong surge in the round of 16, because Tommy Paul and Ugo Humbert appear in his main draw. By reaching his sixth final out of six on the ATP Tour, the Frenchman has reached his best ranking and seems to be in great shape.
In the quarterfinals, however, there are two most dangerous obstacles: Hubert Hurkacz and Casper Ruud.
Obviously everyone is hoping for a challenge between Nole and Rafael Nadal, who has been drawn in the top…
