Venus Williams said she was “so surprised” Camila Giorgi wasn’t ranked at No 1 in the world and tennis fans instantly felt that the American was taking a sarcastic dig at the Italian. On Monday, 43-year-old Williams upset world No 48 Giorgi 7-6 (5) 4-6 7-6 (6).
In the first set, Williams took a hard fall and heard Giorgi delightfully shouting. When Williams stood up, she gave Giorgi a very cold stare. Also, Williams very loudly celebrated after completing a win over Giorgi – something which is not very usual for the seven-time Grand Slam champion.
