Daniil Medvedev admits he regrets a bit not having a chance to play against Roger Federer after he elevated his game to a different level. Medvedev, 27, played against Federer three times and suffered as many straight-set defeats.
At the Miami Open, Medvedev tried to explain how playing against Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic helped him improve and become a much better player. The last meeting between Medvedev and Federer came at the 2019 Miami Open, when the Swiss beat the Russian 6-4 6-2.
“In general, you know, playing against guys like Novak, Rafa, unfortunately when I played Roger I was not yet at my best, it taught me that sometimes you can have matches where they beat you maybe easy, and the next one you have to do better.
You have to be a better version of yourself,” Medvedev said, per Sportskeeda.
Medvedev learned from Federer
When Medvedev figured out he needed to become more serious about his career, he looked at Federer’s attitude. On the court, Federer always had a poker face and meant business.
