After shocking loss, the Mike McCarthy firing rumors have begun. Will the Dallas Cowboys fire McCarthy?
Mike McCarthy has probably never received the credit he deserves as an NFL head coach.
He had eight consecutive playoff appearances, a Super Bowl title and more wins than Vince Lombardi while with the Green Bay Packers for 13 years. In his third season in Dallas, he has the Cowboys in position to have consecutive double-digit win seasons for the first time since 1996.
While McCarthy likely wouldn’t mind some more credit for his success, he’s also not the type to want constant attention. And that’s what he has received all week as he prepared for his first return to the Lambeau Field sidelines since he was fired in the middle of the 2018 season.
This Week 10 matchup between the Cowboys (6-2) and Packers (3-6) also happens to fall on the same week as his birthday. McCarthy turned 59 on Thursday. He celebrated at home to himself. His wife and children made an early trip up to Green Bay to visit family and friends.
“I feel like I’ve had time to reflect,” said McCarthy, whose Cowboys are coming off their bye week. “I just want to win the game. I think like any coach, anybody that’s not part of those 48 players out there competing, I don’t want to get in the way….
