Ultrarunner Courtney Dauwalter has had an incredibly successful few weeks: the 38-year-old broke another 100-mile ultra run course record at the Hardrock 100 on 15th July.
UTMB winner Dauwalter smashed the previous course record by an hour and four minutes, crossing the finish line in 26:14:08. This new record is for the counter-clockwise version of the race, as the Hardrock 100 alternates directions each year: Dauwalter holds the clockwise record, too.
This new record comes just three weeks after Courtney Dauwalter won the Western States ultramarathon and broke the course record by almost 80 minutes. She has now set a new record entirely and is the first athlete to set course records at the Hardrock 100 and Western States races in the same year.
Despite taking a wrong turn around mile 87, Dauwalter still managed to set the women’s record and come in fourth place overall. French athlete Anne-Lise Rousset Seguret led the pack until mile 64, when Dauwalter overtook and led the rest of the way.
Her win should feel like an overdue triumph for her, as she had to drop out of the 2021 counter-clockwise race around halfway through due to stomach issues. After this year’s win, she shared with her Instagram followers that it had been a tough race, where ‘not a single mile came…
