The Council for Responsible Sport have announced that the 2023 TCS London Marathon has been awarded Gold certification. The award follows a comprehensive assessment of the event’s approach to social and environmental impacts.
What is the Council for Responsible Sport?
The Council for Responsible Sport is a non-profit organisation with a vision of a world where responsibly-produced events are the norm.
Its mission is to provide objective and independent verification of the socially and environmentally responsible work that event organisers are doing. It also aims to actively support event organisers in making a difference in their communities.
London Marathon is the first major event in the UK to be awarded Gold certification from the Council. It achieved 50 out of a maximum 61 credits, with events needing 45-54 credits to achieve Gold certification.
Measuring environmental and social impact
For the 2023 race, London Marathon Events used the ReScore app, a cloud-based application developed by its sponsor TCS specifically for the Council.
ReScore enabled London Marathon Events to measure the environmental and social impact of the marathon. It also enabled its organisers to report, verify, and certify against sustainability standards set by the Council.
