Cori Gauff addresses hitting Iga Swiatek, Pole tumbling to clay

Cori Gauff insists she absolutely did not intentionally hit Iga Swiatek during their French Open match. On Wednesday, top-seeded Swiatek saw off world No 6 Gauff 6-4 6-2 to progress into the French Open semifinal. In the second set, one of Gauff’s shots from the middle of the court hit Swiatek and the Pole ended up tumbling to the clay.

“I didn’t try to hit her. I was just trying to hit the ball hard in the middle of the court, and it happened to hit her. I apologised after but I think she knows that’s part of the game. If you hit a bad ball and you decide to run to the net, there’s always a risk that you get hit,” Gauff said, per The Independent.

Gauff on losing to Swiatek for the seventh time

Gauff now has zero wins and seven defeats against Swiatek. To make it worse, Gauff is still without an even set won against Swiatek. After picking up her seventh straight-set defeat against Swiatek, Gauff admitted her record against the Pole “sucks.” “Obviously you lose to someone seven times, you feel crappy.
