Conchita Martinez has ended her professional cooperation with Garbine Muguruza, the famous Spanish coach announced on social media.
Three and a half years after taking over as Muguruza’s head coach, the former world No.2 and 1994 Wimbledon champion Martinez announces an amicable split:
Garbine and I have decided by mutual agreement to end our business relationship. These have been fantastic years, full of great emotions and wonderful experiences, both on and off the court. It has been a pleasure working with you, Garbine. I wish you the best #friendship
Before becoming Muguruza’s main coach in November 2019, Martinez led the former top-ranked WTA player to the 2017 Wimbledon title, her second triumph at a Grand Slam event. In 2021, Martinez was named the WTA Coach of the Year, having helped Muguruza win three titles that season: Dubai, Chicago 500, and her first season-ending WTA Finals title in Guadalajara, Mexico.
