Iconic doubles partnership of Barbora Strycova and Hsieh Su-Wei is making a grand comeback to the Hologic WTA Tour at the April 25 – May 7 Mutua Madrid Open tournament in Spain.
In February, former doubles No.1 Strycova announced that she would soon make a comeback after giving birth to her first child, a son named Vincent. The time has come and the event she’s picked for her return is the WTA 1000 Mutua Madrid Open.
“See you in Madrid,” Strycova wrote on social media. In one of replies to her tweet, the Czech player explained that this will not be a full comeback, rather, she will play just a few tournaments that she really likes. The last tournament she played was the 2021 Australian Open.
Also, Strycova has confirmed that she’ll play doubles with Hsieh, jokingly calling their successful partnership “double trouble.”
Hsieh, also a former world No.1 in doubles, hasn’t competed since the end of 2021, when she finished runner-up at the Akron WTA Finals Guadalajara alongside Elise Mertens. Interestingly, Hsieh was supposed to make a surprise comeback at last month’s Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, but she got visa to a wrong country and had to adjust her travel plans.
