Largely in the lead of the Tournament of Champions after 54 holes, Collin Morikawa displays insolent statistics before the last round, especially in putting. Collin Morikawa seems untouchable on this 2023 edition of the Tournament of Champions.
The 25-year-old American posted a score of -24 after 54 holes. This is the ninth time a golfer has achieved such a feat on the PGA Tour, the previous eight have won! Australian Geoff Ogilvy had already led by six strokes before a final round in Kapalua to win in 2009.
Three other golfers led by five lengths… before winning the tournament. Still without any bogey on the clock, the Californian would be the third man since 2019 to win without fail on the PGA Tour, when no one had achieved this feat between 1975 and 2018!
Collin Morikawa, stats
Putting is where Collin Morikawa is most impressive at the moment, with a staggering +6.7 stroke gain putting from day one. Only 131st in this statistical category last season, Morikawa is in the lead this week!
If successful, the two-time Major winner would be the first man to win the Tournament of Champions without having lifted a trophy the previous season, taking full advantage of the opening to the Tour Championship runners-up in the 2022 season.
-34 seems unreachable, but anything is possible…
