Coco Gauff maybe didn’t accomplish her goals on the court at the Paris Olympics but she was still a happy camper when she returned home since she managed to finally get selfies with Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray.
After testing positive for COVID-19 at the last moment and being forced to miss the Tokyo Olympics, 20-year-old Gauff didn’t experience any setbacks before this year’s Summer Games and she made her Olympic debut in the French capital.
And during her first Olympics, the 2023 US Open champion got to meet some of the top American athletes – including swimmer Katie Ledecky, gymnasts Simone Biles and Suni Lee, track and field star Sha’Carri Richards, sprinter Noah Lyles, etc… But for Gauff, the most important thing was finally finding the courage to ask Nadal and Murray for a picture.
When revealing that, Gauff acknowledged she is aware that some may find it funny that she only now got those selfies because there were many times when she was on the same site as those two. But the Olympics are a different vibe since it’s very common for athletes to ask for selfies there and Gauff felt way more open to approaching Nadal and Murray in the Olympic Village.
