Coco Gauff says she is playing “more freely” after the US Open win “lifted some weight” off her shoulders. After clinching her first WTA 1000 and Grand Slam titles in Cincinnati and the US Open, Gauff kicked off her Asian swing this week in Beijing.

At the start of her first tournament since the US Open, Gauff didn’t really play perfectly against Ekaterina Alexandrova and Petra Martic but still managed to win her opening two Beijing matches. On Thursday, Gauff also beat Veronika Kudermetova 7-6 (5) 6-2 in the Beijing round-of-16 to clinch her 15th consecutive win and set a new record for the most consecutive wins on the WTA Tour in 2023.

Now even Gauff isn’t playing great, she is finding ways to win. “Having those victories makes me feel more confident now, especially because of how the US Open went. There is a lot more pressure in a Grand Slam, but I think I can handle emotions better thanks to the experience.

Now it’s like some weight has been lifted off my shoulders, I can play more freely,” Gauff said, via The Tennis Letter.
