The painful defeat in straight sets against Emma Navarro – in the American derby – has not affected the Coco Gauff who, even if she was defeated in the 4th round of Wimbledon, has once again shown her class, at the press conference. The young American, who has always fought for equal rights and who is involved in many social battles, has slammed the fans disrespectful towards lower-level players, explaining that, even if they may not be so well-known, they are still talented and deserve respect.
Answering to a question from the media about how much it affected your mindset being one of the few remaining top seeds at Wimbledon, Coco replied:
“It doesn’t mean anything. I think especially on my side of the draw, even though the players might not be that well known, they’re still talented. I think it’s something that people. The fans are a little disrespectful when it comes to other players on Tour. Maybe the rankings aren’t there. But the level is there. And they’re here for a reason. They deserve their spot. There’s no easy draw. There’s no walk in the park or anything like that. This is a competitive sport. We all want to win. I’ve been there when I was ranked far away or unknown.
