US Open champion Coco Gauff is one of the favorites to win the 2023 edition of the WTA Finals, which are taking place in Mexico, in the city of Cancun. The young American had an exceptional second half of the season, winning the WTA 500 in Washington, the WTA Masters 1000 in Cincinnati and the New York Slam, climbing up to 3rd position in the WTA rankings.
Coco will also be involved in the doubles tournament with her friend and singles opponent Jessica Pegula. On the eve of her appearance on the court, the very young American said: “Jessica and I did it last year. We both had great seasons in singles and doubles this year.
For us to qualify for the second year in a row it’s pretty good in both events. I don’t know if there are that many pairs of players who have done it. So I’m really happy just to be here and also to play with Jess, who I consider a friend on and off the court.”
