Coco Gauff reveals she read some calling her “only 250 Coco” and describing her Washington title as “a flop win.” After beating Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open final and becoming a Grand Slam champion, 19-year-old Gauff said she was extremely motivated to prove her doubters eat their words.
Now, Gauff has revealed some of the stuff that she noticed being written about her on social media. According to Gauff, when she lifted her first WTA 1000 title in Cincinnati, some were saying her win was a result of lucky circumstances and other top players not feeling well in the tournament.
Also, Gauff said she read people saying there was no way she would be able to deliver that same level at a Grand Slam tournament.

“I think after DC when I won. Because before, I would just mute all the words and not go on my account, delete the account, and all these types of things.
I realized that my personality is not like that. My parents, they know I’m stubborn and I like to prove people wrong. So the more I read it, the more it made me want to prove them wrong. In DC, I saw a tweet, ‘She’s only 250 Coco.’
