Coco Gauff makes telling statement to Nick Kyrgios at US Open

Coco Gauff made a pretty interesting comment to Nick Kyrgios during their US Open on-court interview as the 20-year-old American insists she has nothing to lose now that she is a Grand Slam champion but also remains confident that she has the potential to do more big things in the future.

Before and during the 2023 season, Gauff repeated several times that one of her big goals was to become a Slam champion as a teenager. And after accomplishing it at last year’s US Open, the American tennis star landed a Major seven months before turning 20 and leaving her teenage years behind. 

Now, Gauff is back to the US Open as the defending champion and she started with back-to-back straight-set wins over Varvara Gracheva and Tatjana Maria to set up a third-round showdown against Elina Svitolina.

And going into a very tough next meeting at Flushing Meadows, Gauff – who is aware that there is a lot of attention and expectation on her at her home Slam – seemingly tried to downplay it a bit.

“Last year I felt more pressure. Stepping on the court now I have really nothing to lose. I’m 20 years old. I have one under my belt. I have the potential to do more whether it happens this year or in the future,” Gauff told Kyrgios.
