Coco Gauff admits she is “very stubborn” and added that she actually may be feeding from negativity. Moments after winning the US Open, 19-year-old Gauff had a special message for those who were apparently saying she was “just a hype” and would never become a Grand Slam champion.
Also, Gauff told those people directly that she knew their usernames on social media. This week in Beijing, Gauff returned to action for the first time since winning the title at Flushing Meadows. On Monday, Gauff ousted Ekaterina Alexandrova 7-5 6-3 in the Beijing first round.
Reflecting on her recent success, Gauff suggested that critics and doubters gave her the extra motivation to accomplish what she just did.
