The victory in two sets got by Barbora Krejcikova against Coco Gauff (with the final score of 7-5, 6-4) condemned Iga Swiatek to elimination from the WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A victory that will allow the Czech to even finish in first place in the Orange Group, overtaking the young American in extremis.
The brutal 6-1, 6-0 with which the Polish player beat Daria Kasatkina was not enough to qualify for the semifinals of the tournament, because the winner of the last edition of Wimbledon played much better than Gauff, effectively eliminating Swiatek. The semifinals of the WTA Finals 2024 will therefore see Aryna Sabalenka against Coco Gauff and Barbora Krejcikova against Qinwen Zheng.
