Coco Gauff beats Mirra Andreeva in a clash of teens at US Open

Date:

Teenager Coco Gauff defeated the youngest player in the draw Mirra Andreeva 6-3 6-2 to reach the third round in Flushing Meadows.

Last year’s US Open quarterfinalist Gauff dropped serve at the start of the match, but then won four consecutive games, ultimately securing the first set on her third set point. In the second set, the sixth-seeded Gauff twice broke Andreeva’s serve at love, cruising to a routine victory in one hour and 17 minutes. The world No.63 Andreeva won just 37% of points on her second serve, so that is one aspect of her game she should definitely improve.

Their sole previous meeting was a three-setter, but Gauff absolutely dominated today in Arthur Ashe Stadium. In the on-court interview, the American revealed that she strived to play more aggressive tennis this time and it worked.

The world No.6 Gauff owns four hard-court titles, three of which have come this year, and two within August (Washington and Cincinnati).
