Coach Pere Riba insists nothing bad happened between him and Coco Gauff as he has claimed once again that “personal reasons” led to a sudden split with the reigning US Open champion. During the grass season, Riba debuted in Gauff’s team.
After Wimbledon, Gauff also added Brad Gilbert to her coaching team and the two worked simultaneously. That did wonders for Gauff, who won the US Open, Cincinnati and Washington during the North American hard court swing. But when Gauff returned to action in China, she wasn’t accompanied by coach Riba.
When asked about Riba’s absence, world No 3 Gauff said he left the team to address some personal stuff. Considering how much success they achieved early in their partnership, many were shocked to see Riba and Gauff parting ways.
