In this year’s very exciting edition of the Montane Winter Spine Race 2024, Claire Bannwarth defended her 2023 title and was the first woman to make it to the finish line in Kirk Yetholm. She placed fifth overall, managing to complete the extreme 268-mile endurance challenge in 92 hours 2 minutes and 23 seconds, five hours faster than last year.
“It’s a joy to watch Claire race,” stated Spine Race representatives on the official Instagram account. “Not just because she is an exceptional athlete with the full tool kit of mental and physical strengths required to so consistently produce elite performances, but because she quite obviously takes such joy in the simple act of running long distances in wild places. That joy is infectious, and her enormous talent and hunger for more and more of these experiences is inspiring.”
In the men’s race, all eyes were on Jack Scott who obliterated Jasmin Paris’s course record by 10 hours with a finishing time of 72:55:05.
“If there is such a thing as a perfect performance in endurance sports, then this just might be it,” said the Spine Race.
