China top player Qinwen Zheng provides politically correct answer on Peng Shuai case

Chinese tennis star Qinwen Zheng reveals she has never spoken with Peng Shuai and noted her primary focus is on her own tennis career. Last week, the WTA announced tournaments will return to China in the fall. After Peng accused a former Chinese vice premier of sexual harassment, the former Grand Slam champion disappeared for some time before reappearing in early 2022.

The WTA demanded a fully transparent investigation into the Peng claims and also suspended all tennis operations in China. “Actually, I don’t know how she is. I have never talked to her in my life. I’m just a beginner in WTA still.

I just trying to focus on my tennis and enjoy playing in front of my people,” 20-year-old Zheng said. Even though Zheng hasn’t had any contact with Peng, she thinks the former Chinese tennis player is living safely back home.

“No, in the tour I don’t talk much. I basically just stay close by with my team. But I think she’s pretty well in China. Just have a normal life. But honestly I don’t know how she is. I just focus more on myself, yeah,” Zheng added.
