NWSL Draft day craziness is expected, but the Chicago Red Stars were a bit more active than most in the hours leading up to the event and during the drafting, involved in four trades on the day.
The Red Stars have dealt with exoduses in the previous two offseasons and unfortunately for the team which is trying to rebuild under new ownership — and finally a new head coach, Lorne Donaldson — this offseason started in a similar way. It should be noted that Donaldson’s employment started just last week and had a quick ramp to prepare for the NWSL Draft.
“We’re looking for better results — a hard working team [that can] grind it out, can defend, can attack — both so we can get some positive results and make the team what it used to be,” Donaldson said of his expectations of the Red Stars to The Equalizer after the NWSL Draft.
