Chicago, a satire on corruption, features the story of 1920s housewife and nightclub dancer Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, with the former duping the public to avoid conviction for the murder of her lover. Headlines take over, with the accurate historical take on women being celebrities following a murder, and all that jazz.
The musical started on Broadway in 1975 and was later revived in 1996. Since its revival on Broadway, it has won six Tony Awards and one Grammy. Its popularity resulted in the 2002 movie of the same name, which won six awards at the Oscars.
