Chelsea’s latest humiliation erodes faith in Project Pochettino amid clamour for change

Graham Potter lasted less than two more weeks as Chelsea head coach after the wife of Thiago Silva liked a tweet from a supporter calling him a “deadbeat tacticless coach” in February 2023. Correlation is not causation, but it was hardly a good sign for his future prospects at Stamford Bridge.

Mrs Silva’s latest withering public assessment fell short of directly criticising Mauricio Pochettino, but it is certainly open to interpretation as a call for his sacking. “It’s time to change,” she wrote. “If you wait any longer it will be too late.”

Pochettino agreed on the need for change after Chelsea’s latest project-shaking humiliation, a 4-2 loss at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers, though he sounds increasingly hazy on the details.

“At the moment we are not reflecting the history of the club, that is true and we need to accept it,” he said. “We need to be critics, but not give up.
