Chelsea manager Emma Hayes labelled her side’s performance in the first 20 minutes against Everton “not acceptable” despite securing a 7-0 victory.
Chelsea moved into second in the Women’s Super League as goals from Guro Reiten, Sam Kerr, Sophie Ingle, Jessie Fleming, Erin Cuthbert and two from Pernille Harder saw them to an emphatic win over Brian Sorensen’s side.
Reiten opened the scoring in the 12th minute before Chelsea scored four times in a devastating 20-minute period at the end of the first half.
Everton had conceded just seven goals in their previous nine WSL matches on the road prior to Sunday’s 7-0 loss at Kingsmeadow.
“Not the first 20 minutes, at all,” Hayes told Sky Sports when asked if she was happy with the performance. “I thought we struggled to get hold of the game in terms of putting pressure on the game in the right situations, so we had to adjust that.
“However, we were really clinical. We scored three goals from four shots and that efficiency put us in the driving seat. But that performance in the first 20 minutes, not acceptable for us.”
Kerr was forced off on 32 minutes, shortly after heading home Chelsea’s second goal and appearing to land awkwardly.
