Chelsea win fourth successive Women’s Super League title as Reading are relegated

Chelsea have been crowned Women’s Super League champions for a fourth consecutive season after their 3-0 victory over Reading who have been relegated.

Emma Hayes’ side took the lead 18 minutes into the game at the Madjeski through Sam Kerr who headed in from close range, and they doubled their lead just before half-time through Guro Reiten.

Kerr, who was named FWA Footballer of the Year earlier this week, completed her brace two minutes from time, poking past Grace Moloney.

Manchester United, who were chasing their maiden WSL title, had to settle for second after their 1-0 victory over Liverpool.

Chelsea’s WSL title completes a second successive domestic double for Emma Hayes’ side following their 1-0 victory over United in the FA Cup final earlier this month.

Chelsea were without manager Hayes for over a month of the campaign after she underwent an emergency hysterectomy in October in relation to her ongoing battle with endometriosis.

Assistants Denise Reddy and Paul Green oversaw six matches in all competitions in Hayes’ absence.

The title is Chelsea’s sixth in eight years — no team has won more since the WSL’s 2011 formation.

They were defeated by Arsenal in the Continental Cup final earlier this year and were knocked out of the Champions League at the semi-final…
