Chelsea Women manager Emma Hayes has targeted Wembley as the venue for next season’s Conti Cup final.
Hayes’ side play Arsenal in the 2022-23 final at Crystal Palace’s 25,456-capacity Selhurst Park on Sunday. It was announced on Monday that 20,000 tickets have been sold for the fixture.
The Women’s FA Cup final has been hosted at Wembley since 2015 but the League Cup final has always been held at club stadiums.
“I want to be in the finals. For me, being in these positions is why I do this,” said Hayes. “So the fact we have a Continental Cup — I hope almost sold out, it sounds like it.
“I mean next time maybe it could be at Wembley and we could do even better and sell Wembley out next year as well because perhaps that’s where the League Cup should be.”
Bramall Lane is the largest capacity stadium to have hosted the League Cup final since the competition began in 2011. Sheffield United’s 32,000-seater home was the venue for Manchester City’s victory over Arsenal in the 2019 final.
A crowd of 8,004 were in attendance for last season’s final at Wimbledon’s Plough Lane to watch Chelsea suffer a 3-1 loss to Manchester City.
